Oftentimes, masquerade balls are considered too old fashioned. The youngsters of today would rather spend special occasions in the arcade playing the myriad computer games possible, or in entertainment parks. Gone are the days when promenades are often looked-forward to and preparations are made days ahead. However, there are still institutions, such as schools, that for the sake of being able to train the young in social skills and the art of interacting with others in a formal set-up include promenades and balls in the school calendar and list of activities.
School requirement as it may seem, it is still fun and interesting to be involved in promenades and balls.
One exciting ball is the masquerade. Often, the artistic side of a person is being tapped in a masquerade. It allows guests to come in different costumes and portray such role until the gathering is over. The portrayal of the different characters is interesting, much so the preparation involved in putting together such a costume to wear to the masquerade.
Out would come the different shoes of different heights, material and style. Out would come the different skirts of different lengths, color, material and width. Make up, too, are in varying colors to match the outfits.
Outfits are often inspired from favorite characters as portrayed in the books or movies. Some portray inanimate objects and animals. Others are very creative enough to make for themselves a character befitting their personality.
Accessories for the masquerade come in many forms too. Some of the favorites are the peacock feather and grosgrain ribbons. Men commonly use the peacock feather as an accent on the beret or headdress. Women have ample uses for the peacock feather and the grosgrain ribbons on their hats and gown on the other hand.
They oftentimes use it as head ornament mostly to call attention to one’s facial features. Others would use several pieces of the peacock feather strung as a fan and use it fashionably. Peacock feathers could be used as accessories on the skirt or on the sleeves of a gown. It is believed that peacock feathers symbolize royalty, so that this ornament has become a favorite piece to be worn on many social events.
